What are the basic requirements for renting a car and driving in Belize?
If you are at least 23 yrs. old and have a valid issued driver's license from your country you may rent and drive.
Does Belize use the Imperial Measurement System or Metric?
Belize uses the Imperial Measurement System. So if you're coming from the US or UK, traffic signs are in English, distances are in Miles, and gas in Gallons. UK drivers should note, that although Belize is a former English colony, vehicles drive on the Right hand side here.
What is the speed limit?
The speed limit on highways is 55 mph. If you want to overtake a slower vehicle, only do so on the left side and be careful of hills and oncoming traffic.
Do gas stations accept credit cards?
Some will. But be prepared to pay cash if they don't. Most gas stations will pump your gas for you as a service. USD and Euros are acceptable currency for payment.
